Joseph S. Rumbaugh Historical Oration Contest 2017:

As Chairman of the Illinois Society of the Sons of the American Revolution Rumbaugh Historical Oration Committee, I am writing to affirm our commitment to make this SAR Historical Oration contest available to your school and students this year.

The contest is for an original oration not less than five minutes and not more than six (in English). Topics shall deal with an event, a document within the context of the Revolutionary War, or a personality showing the relationship it bears to American today.

Contest rules can be found at the website www.sar.org. Scroll down under “education/youth” and then “Joseph S. Rumbaugh Contest.” Please read all of these instructions carefully and pay close attention to paragraph five, which states the specific rules for submission. Download and complete the appropriate forms.

The Rumbaugh Oration Contest Committee has the responsibility of conducting the oration contest annually on the State level for the high school candidates to determine a winner of the State contest to represent ILSSAR and compete for the scholarship at the National level. The State winner will be presented with a $1000 Scholarship and $ 500 for expenses to compete in the National contest at the Annual Congress of the NSSAR.

The second place winner will receive $ 300. The thired place winner will receive $ 200.

Video entries from Illinois contestants must be received only on readable DVDs (no electronic transmissions accepted). All entries should be submitted directly to me. They should be postmarked no later than April 15, 2017.
