Golden Apple Scholars- Scholarships

HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS GRADUATING IN 2016

BENEFITS:

Golden Apple Scholars who enter the program out of High School receive a total of $23,000 in scholarships and stipend funds:

  • Tuition assistance of $2,500 per year for freshmen and sophomore years and $5,000 per year for junior and senior years (paid directly to the Scholar's undergraduate institution)

  • Scholars also receive a $2,000 stipend for participation in each of four Summer Institute experiences

  • Comprehensive job placement program that assists scholars finding employment during and after college

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen (DACAmented student) and resident of Illinois.

  • Graduate high school in 2016

  • Your entry into the selection process begins with a 22+ ACT composite score with a combined 19 in English/Writing (on the same test). You may still fill out the application, write the essays and gather the references if you have not met the required score. If you feel by re-taking the ACT test you would be able to achieve an ACT score of 22, please access the ACT website for test dates, locations and registration information.

  • 2.5 GPA

  • Complete the nomination form online

  • Provide proof of ACT scores

  • Submit school transcripts

SELECTION PROCESS:

  • Golden Apple Award-winning teachers select program finalists and schedule interviews February through March 2016.

  • Accepted Scholars are notified in early April 2016.

  • Interview schedule for 2016 Class of Golden Apple Scholars

  • 2/13/16 - Chicago: Scholar interviews at Golden Apple

  • 2/27/16 - Downstate: Scholar interviews at UIS

  • 3/5/16 - Chicago: Scholar interviews at Golden Apple

  • 3/19/16 - Chicago: Final selection

  • May 2016 - Scholar Induction

IF SELECTED AS A SCHOLAR, THE COMPLETION REQUIREMENTS ARE:

  • Meet ISAC program requirements

  • Meet 2.5 GPA program requirements

  • Participate in Golden Apple Summer Institutes

  • Comply with program code of conduct

  • Earn a bachelor's degree at one of 53 Illinois partner universities

  • Obtain Illinois teacher certification

  • Teach for five years in an Illinois school of need, within seven years of graduation.

Nominations for the Golden Apple Scholars of Illinois program are open through January 2016.
