What is the Take the Lead Program?
Take the Lead is an introduction to civic engagement.
The goal of this program is to:
DEVELOP professional skills in the participants as they are challenged to create an organized community project.
EDUCATE the participants on volunteer needs and long term changes.
MOBILIZE peers to improve their communities through service.
How to Apply?
Deadline: October 13th, 2015 at 4:30pm

Who is eligible to Apply?
Participants must…
Be a SOPHOMORE or JUNIOR high school student in McLean County.
Exhibit strong leadership skills as well as motivation to create new ideas.
Demonstrate an ability to think creatively and be self-driven.
Find enjoyment in helping others through community service.
Illustrate an ability to problem solve efficiently and passion toward solving larger community issues.
What is the Breakdown of the Program?
Group will meet ONCE a month to develop a Community Service Project.
Dates for the mandatory meetings (lasting from 10am-2pm) will be:
October 23, 2015 February 15, 2016
November 25, 2015 March 5, 2016
December 21, 2015 April 9, 2016
January 18, 2016
Some group sessions will include professional development workshops where participants will practice public speaking, learn networking techniques and develop stronger leadership skills.
The group presents the project at the Rock the Block Event in April, 2016.
At the conclusion of the program, participants will be evaluated based on their community project, participation, attendance, etc. A total of $10,000 will be awarded to participants who score highest on the evaluation, to be used towards college tuition.
