The mission of the OHS Counseling Department is to provide a nurturing environment and resources for all students to develop and obtain academic success, social/emotional growth, and the career readiness competencies necessary to succeed and contribute to a changing society.

We Believe:
  • All students have the capability to contribute to a changing society.
  • The counseling program should be an advocate for the needs of all students, regardless of ethnic and cultural background, gender diversity, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, and mental and physical disabilities.
  • All students should have access to a state licensed, master’s degree-level school counselor for support in academic, social/emotional, and college/career needs.
  • Professional development for all counselors is necessary to maintain a quality school counseling program.
  • Collaboration with teachers, parents, administrators, and other stakeholders is essential for student growth and development.
  • The school counseling department should be annually reviewed and aligned with state and national models of effective school counseling practices.
  • In a preventative model with multiple tiers of support that provides interventions for academic, behavioral, and career readiness factors.
